Main Character blog hop

I have been nominated to do the blog hop by Wendy Steele  and I’m nominating Kanundra… Go on I dare you. 🙂

So down to the post.

This is a novel in progress. I’m writing the bulk of it as part of Nanowrimo, but I’m playing catch up as I have been busy until today, so my word count is 500 words instead of over 3000… I can do it!

What is the name of your main character?

Mary Carter, she is an anglo Indian who is married to a white man. She is quiet and has the habit of talking with her hands.

When and where is the story set?

The novel is set over 24 hours in one house. Sure there are flashbacks and such, but basically the novel is within the confines of Mary’s house; her suburban, ordinary house.

What should we know about the main character?

Well, at the beginning of the book Mary is a passive character, everything happens to her rather than her effecting her world. The first scene opens on her being physically abused by her husband. Mary is a mouse of a character who allows it to happen. But over time she changes, her story is one of a journey that allows her to take back control of her life.

What is the characters goal?

To hide the murder that she believes has been committed by her son and to save him.

What is screwing up your character’s life (main conflict)?

Mary’s conflict revolves around her husband, an abusive man. But he isn’t the only conflict, it is also his actions, which Mary must unravel throughout the novel. It’s as if she has got to take apart a complicated piece of weaving, she must find the original strands in order to fix herself and her son.

When is the book published?

It should make it to the bookshelves next year. I’m not sure when but it will be there.

Hope it sounds interesting. The story has been one that came in a flash but the research and the guts to write it has taken six months. So wish me luck and I’ll try not to lose focus.
